Steriline Racing has received recognition from the steel industry who generally think of steel fabricators as part of the construction industry. We are fabricators who have aligned our business to the industry we serve.

“Steriline Racing, based at Mount Barker, in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, has developed a profile as a service company to the racing industry. Steriline’s advanced design racecourse equipment has developed into the racing industry’s pacemaker over more than 45 years.

The company manufactures starting gates in sizes from three to twenty stalls, running rail, stewards towers, recall systems, chute guides, wheeled rail sections and training gates. The majority of Australia’s racetracks use the company’s starting gates and running rails, which are also exported worldwide.

The Australian Institute of Export awarded Steriline Racing’s Managing Director, Mr John Fargher, the title of Australian Export Hero. The Governor of Victoria presented Mr Fargher with the award at a ceremony at Government House in Melbourne in March 2004.

An even start is the most important factor in managing a horse race. Because the industry is largely driven by betting, the punters need to be certain that each start is an ‘even break’. Steriline has used its global knowledge to solve some of the problems associated with horse race starts. People in the industry appreciate that Steriline offer reliable starting gates that are safe for both horse and rider.

Steriline’s success has been achieved by listening to our customers, the end users of our products.

Four sets of Steriline ten-stall starting gates have recently been supplied to the Hellenic Horse Racing Organisation in Greece for the new racecourse at Markopoulos, the prestigious Olympic equestrian venue in Athens.

The starting gates are fabricated from high-grade steel, which gives strength without adding weight. All the steel is galvanised or zinc coated and finished with high-adhesion, abrasive-resistant paint. Stainless steel bolts and nuts are used throughout. Steriline staff travel with the finished gates to oversee installation as part of the supply contract.

Steriline fabricate around 500 tonnes of high-grade steel (mostly tubular steel sourced from BlueScope Steel and Smorgon Steel Tube Mills) into racing industry equipment.

An award-winning, Stewards Tower for the Australian Jockey Club (AJC) at Randwick in Sydney was installed in time for the Spring Racing Carnival.

So next time you stand glued to the television, glass in hand, cheering on your favourite for the Melbourne Cup, remember that ‘the race that stops the nation is started in Steriline Racing steel.
