04 Nov 2008

The inaugural 2008 Steriline Racing Australian Racecourse Management Scholarship has been awarded to Adam Ayre, 24, from Muswellbrook Race Club.

Adam’s selection was announced at the annual dinner of the 2008 Australian Racecourse Managers Conference in Brisbane on August 19, 2008.

The Racecourse Management Scholarship has a total value in excess of $10,000 and is for study of all aspects of racecourse management operations at the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s racecourses for two weeks between October and December 2008.

Steriline Racing managing director John Fargher said Adam was chosen from a strong field of candidates from city based and country clubs across Australia.

“We’re thrilled the candidates recognized the scholarship as a ‘money can’t buy’ opportunity to rub shoulders with the best in the industry at one of the most prestigious thoroughbred racing facilities in the world,” Mr Fargher said.

“This is a work experience opportunity of a lifetime,” he said.

John Ridley, Head of Racing Operations at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, also welcomed the announcement of the inaugural scholarship winner.

“The Hong Kong Jockey Club is extremely proud to be able to share our racing operations experience with the scholarship winner and I hope that this young man’s time in Hong Kong is both rewarding and memorable,” he said.

Steriline Racing has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Its latest involvement was in supplying key infrastructure for the Hong Kong-based equestrian events at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Steriline installed the fence on the main Olympic equestrian arena, the warm-up path in Penfold Park and railing inside the quarantine area at the Sha Tin Race Track, and several sections of the Beas River equestrian facilities.
