France Galop planned to install a new synthetic track between the two existing turf tracks at its Deauville racecourse.

To achieve this satisfactorily, in the available space, and within budget, the track was designed to be about 20 metres wide. While the distance between the inside and outside running rail was to be 22 metres.

Significantly, France Galop did not want the synthetic material spread onto the grass tracks, nor any grass track contamination on the synthetic surface.

As such, they approached Steriline Racing to investigate the feasibility of developing a steering system which would enable the 17 stall starting gate (17.5m in length) to not only fit into the start position on the track, but also to be towed off and parked on the synthetic surface adjacent to the outside rail. Removal of the gates being required in a matter of seconds before the field of horses passed that start position again.

Steriline Racing engineers designed, developed and tested a 90 degree steering system which facilitated all required design criteria as well as the tractor length.

Steriline Racing ... simply superior.
