In 1994 plans were well underway for the staging of the inaugural Dubai World Cup.
At that point, Racing Club management approached Steriline to discuss the provision of a new starting gate for this prestigious event. The then Racecourse Secretary, had considerable experience in horseracing in the United States of America. And it was recognised that in the USA gates designed for club racing have historically been larger in size and therefore heavier in weight. Because the Dubai World Cup was designed to attract competitors from around the racing world, it was imperative that equipment meet international expectations. One concern, therefore was that standard Steriline starting gates might be too narrow for larger horses and that American thoroughbreds, in particular, might feel too confined. Steriline Racing engineers accepted the brief and researched methods to increase the space within each stall. This was achieved by introducing the ‘slimline’ platform – which resulted in allowing each horse additional room. Concurrently the ‘extended’ gates were designed to provide an additional length for each stall. These gates have now been used to start every Dubai World Cup since 1994. |
