Dubai, the World, the Cup, and the Starting Gate

The Dubai World Cup ran from the Steriline Racing starting gates on 31st March 2018, with Thunder Snow taking victory.

The world famous race has always started from Steriline starting gates, even when it was held at Nad Al Sheba prior to moving the new Meydan racecourse. Interestingly even though the race has always jumped from the same brand of starting gate, there has never been a horse to win the race more than once. Owner, Godolphin Racing took home success 7 times, and trainer Saeed Bin Suroor has won the race 8 times, but only the Steriline starting gates can boast over 20 successes with the Dubai World Cup.

Known as the world's richest horse race from 2010 until 2017 when the American Thoroughbred Horse Race, Pegasus World Cup offered up US$12 million.

This year, instead of jumping from the starting gate on a synthetic track, the starting gate was towed into place on the new dirt surface. The dirt surface obviously suited Thunder Snow, who took out the title.
